Whether the brake pads should be polished or replaced depends on the wear of the brake discs. The owner can check the thickness of the brake disc. There will be 3 small pits on the brake disc. The depth of each pit is 1.5 mm. If the wear depth on both sides adds up to 3 mm, the brake disc needs to be replaced immediately.

When there is rust on the brake disc, the friction between the brake caliper and the brake pad can be used to polish off the rust on the brake disc. If the rust is severe, the brake pads can be removed for polishing. After the rust is cleaned, it can be used again. If the rust is too serious, polishing is useless, and only a new brake disc can be replaced.

Disadvantages of polishing brake discs

1. The distance between the brake disc and the brake pad will change after the brake disc is polished. Even if the gap between the brake pad and the brake disc is small, there will be a risk of brake failure;

2. After the brake disc is polished, the use time will also be reduced;

3. Polishing the brake disc will cause the brake disc to become thinner, and the braking effect will be affected to a certain extent.

Under normal circumstances, the brake discs need to be replaced when a vehicle travels 60,000 to 70,000 kilometers. The specific replacement time depends on the driving environment and driving habits of the vehicle owner. If the owner frequently slams on the brakes or the driving environment is poor, the brake discs may need to be replaced after traveling 50,000 kilometers. If the owner's driving habits are good and the environment is not humid, then the brake disc is likely to be used up to 100,000 kilometers.
