Who could have imagined that the MPV sales list in December 2025 would be so overturned? The Buick GL8, which has long been regarded as the "standard equipment" for business receptions, only sold 3,852 units of its fuel version, slipping to tenth place on the list. Its plug-in hybrid version sold 4,614 units, ranking seventh, and the total of the two cars combined was only 8,466 units. This number is not even close to the single-month sales of the champion model that month. What is even more surprising is that the winner is not the familiar Denza D9 or Toyota Sienna, but a relatively new face, Wei Pai Gaoshan. It topped the list with 10,558 units, becoming the only MPV model with sales exceeding 10,000 units in December.

The Wei brand Alpine car has gone through a key product upgrade and launched Alpine 7, Alpine 8, Alpine 9 and other series of models, covering different needs from home to business. After the replacement, the new car has been significantly upgraded in terms of intelligence and comfort configuration. The entire series is equipped with an intelligent four-wheel drive electric hybrid system, with a pure electric range of up to 172 kilometers, and the price range is set at 285,800 to 353,800 yuan.

It was this comprehensive adjustment from product positioning to price that allowed its sales to soar from a few hundred units per month at the beginning of the year to over 10,000 for three consecutive months at the end of the year.
The competition for the second and third places on the list is extremely fierce. Toyota's "Twin Stars" Grevia and Senna ranked second and third with 9359 and 9358 units respectively. The sales volume difference between the two is only 1 unit. This shows that despite the turbulent wave of new energy, traditional joint venture fuel (including hybrid) MPVs still maintain a solid base among some user groups due to their mature reputation and the low fuel consumption advantages of hybrid technology.

The Denza D9, once the benchmark for high-end new energy MPVs, sold 8,439 units in December (data of 7,868 units according to different statistical calibers), ranking fourth. Although it is still at the top, compared to its former peak, its market share has been eroded by latecomers. Some analysts pointed out that the pace of product changes and pure electric battery life parameters have shown insufficient competitiveness in the face of new competitors such as Weipai Gaoshan and Lantu Dreamer.
Lantu Dreamer ranked fifth with 6,583 units (other data said 7,008 units). The average transaction price of this car has exceeded 400,000 yuan, and data shows that more than 55% of its users come from the purchase group of traditional luxury brands such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Audi. This means that independent high-end MPVs are directly competing for users of traditional luxury cars with solid product strength.

Xpeng X9 became a dark horse in December, ranking sixth with sales of 4,935 units. The key to its sales doubling is the launch of an extended-range version in November, which lowers the entry price and solves the battery life anxiety issue that pure electric MPV users are generally worried about. This once again proves that at the current stage, plug-in hybrid/range-extended technology that can achieve "long-distance anxiety-free" is more favored by MPV users.
Trumpchi M8, as a representative of its own brand of fuel MPV, maintained its eighth position with sales of 4,274 units. The tenth place is occupied by Wuling Starlight 730 New Energy with 3,236 units (other statistics put the total of its plug-in hybrid and fuel versions at 7,569 units). It has opened up a new track in the 100,000 yuan market with its extremely high cost performance.

Looking at the entire list, a clear structural change has been completed. New energy MPVs, especially plug-in hybrid models, have become the absolute protagonist of the market. Among the top ten on the list, new energy models occupy at least six seats. Consumers' attention is highly focused on these popular models that combine endurance, space, comfort and intelligence.
On the other hand, models in the second half of the list and those that are not at the top are facing huge market pressure. The monthly sales of models such as the Mercedes-Benz V-Class and Ideal MEGA only hover around a thousand units, while the sales of Buick Century, Trumpchi E9, Volvo EM90 and other models are only in the hundreds. The market shows an obvious "ice and fire" situation.
The situation of Buick GL8 is a microcosm of the entire traditional fuel MPV camp. This "King of Commercial Vehicles", which has been selling well in the Chinese market for more than 20 years, with cumulative production and sales exceeding 2 million units, is facing unprecedented challenges. Although it also launched a plug-in hybrid version of the GL8 PHEV in 2025 in an attempt to catch up with the trend, its original halo effect is quickly fading in the face of a group of independent new energy competitors that are comprehensively innovating in product definition, intelligence, and energy consumption economy.

From the counterattack of Weipai Alpine to the decline of Buick GL8, this sales list in December 2025 clearly records the moment of power transfer in China's MPV market. The power that dominates the market has completely shifted from the brand premium of joint venture brands to the real product value competition of independent brands with new energy and intelligence as the core.
