Although my country's automobile industry started late, it has led a revolution in the automobile industry in recent years. That is, the research and development and production of new energy vehicles are ahead of the traditional automobile industry powers. This has also allowed my country's own brand cars to take off on the new track and further expand its automobile production advantages over the United States, Japan and other countries.
The rapid expansion of new energy vehicles has also set off a change in the country, that is, the rapid rise of emerging automobile production bases will definitely replace the status of established production areas, completely overturning the automobile industry base pattern that has remained unchanged for decades since the founding of the People's Republic of China. If you don't believe it, take a look at the ranking of automobile production in each province and city in the first three quarters of 2025.

Although my country's automobile industry started late, it has led a revolution in the automobile industry in recent years.

Speaking of my country's most well-known industrial bases, none are Shanghai, Hubei Province, Jilin Province, Guangdong Province, etc., which dominated domestic automobile production until the rise of new energy vehicle production and sales. Many state-owned or joint venture automobile brands are also mainly concentrated in these areas. However, this pattern has gradually been overturned as the production and sales of new energy vehicles have soared.
Among them, the most obvious decline in output should be in Hubei Province. It once owned the state-owned Dongfeng and Sino-Japanese joint venture brands and occupied a very important position in domestic automobile production and sales. However, as new energy vehicles rapidly squeezed out gasoline vehicles in the past 10 years, its automobile output has clearly shown a trend of retreating if it does not advance.

In the first three quarters of 2025, Hubei Province's cumulative automobile production reached 1.008 million units, ranking only 13th among domestic provinces and cities. Central and western provinces such as Shaanxi, Hunan, and Henan, which did not have a large automobile industry in the early days, are ranked ahead of it.
In particular, Shaanxi Province has a large production capacity of new energy vehicles of brands such as BYD and Geely. It has achieved an output of 1.327 million vehicles in the first three quarters, surpassing the other two old automobile bases of Shanghai and Jilin Province and ranking 7th among provinces and cities. The latter two are 1.236 million vehicles and 1.079 million vehicles respectively.
Relatively speaking, the output of several old automobile industry bases can remain relatively stable in Guangdong Province.

As of the end of the third quarter of this year, its automobile production reached 2.088 million units, ranking second among all provinces and cities. However, Guangdong Province's ability to achieve such a huge output is mainly due to the rise of its new energy vehicle brands. BYD, Aian, etc. have continued to expand their output, driving the province's total automobile output. The output of the original GAC series of gasoline vehicles has also declined severely.
I would like to explain something here. You may be curious when you see that Guangdong Province's automobile production dropped by 44.8% year-on-year in the first three quarters. This is mainly a standard rather than a real drop in output. Starting from this year, automobile output will be strictly based on production statistics rather than headquarters data. In the first three quarters, Hunan Province's surge of more than 200% and Henan Province's surge of more than 90% were also caused by this reason.

Wherever there is a downturn, there is an upswing. As mentioned above, the automobile industry in Hunan and Henan, whose output has soared after the standardization, has taken advantage of the east wind of new energy vehicles. And the fastest rising companies in this round of automobile industry revolution are Anhui, Chongqing, and Shandong. Provinces and cities such as , Jiangsu and Zhejiang, which in the early days had little foundation except for Chongqing and Shandong, which had a certain automobile industry, are now major cities in the domestic automobile industry, with automobile output in the first three quarters all ranking among the top six.
Among them, Anhui Province's cumulative production reached 2.404 million vehicles by the end of the third quarter, ranking first in the country with more than 300,000 vehicles higher than Guangdong Province. Many brands such as Chery, Weilai, and BYD have production bases in Anhui. It is not surprising that production has soared in a few years.

Chongqing's automobile production in the first three quarters also reached more than 1.9 million vehicles, ranking third. Shandong and Jiangsu also produced more than 1.7 million vehicles. Zhejiang Province, Geely Automobile's base, ranked sixth with a production of nearly 1.5 million vehicles.
The above are all provinces and cities with new forces in the automotive industry that have emerged with the rise of new automotive forces and new energy vehicle brands. In just ten years, they have completely overturned the domestic automotive industry base pattern that had been stable in previous decades. Isn’t it really amazing?
Finally, please check the table below to learn more about the automobile production of each province and city in the first three quarters of 2025. Because the production of some provinces and cities is very little or even zero, only the top 20 counties and cities by production are listed. Please understand.
