At the Goodwood Festival of Speed, competition at some levels is very fierce, and it depends on who can climb up the hill as fast as possible. Some races make sense, such as the total time trial, the supercar group, and F1 racing cars and their F1 drivers. But one of the most competitive groups comes from the least likely vehicle on the track to go all out: a full-size luxury SUV.
On Friday, Bentley announced its uphill score of 55.8 seconds, becoming the fastest internal combustion engine SUV in the history of the event. Just two days later, Aston Martin's DBX S completely broke the Bentayga record, and the gap between the two was so big that the four-hour drive from Goodwood back to Bentley's headquarters in Crew felt like several days.

Bentley's record lasted only for a moment
The record set by the 641-horsepower Bentley Bentayga Speed Edition is quite controversial: it was not set on the official race weekend, but in the private race the previous weekend. Despite the slightly wet road surface, the Bentayga Speed 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 and carbon-ceramic brake discs are still faster than any fuel-fuel SUV (except Bentley's own Pikes Peak Bentayga). That monster with the W12 engine is a racing car, not a road car, so it doesn't count.
Bentley was faster until Aston Martin showed up with amazing confidence. Aston Martin did not release any major news, but announced the results of DBX S through a short video on his social media account. The video starts very naughty, and the driver of DBX showed passengers a video of Bentley releasing record announcements and results.
The video then switches to the DBX S to accelerate on Goodwood Raceway, and the timing continues. The Bentley Bentayga Speed Edition sprinted on a 1.17-mile climbing track, which took 55.8 seconds. The DBX S is faster and the match was completed in just 53.12 seconds. On short tracks like hill climbing tracks, this gap is a huge difference. It was undoubtedly a disappointing match for Bentley, comparable to England's failure to advance to the 1994 World Cup.
DBX S vs. Bentayga Speed
DBX S is by far the hottest DBX
The Aston Martin DBX S is very special. It has 717 horsepower, which is 20 more horsepower than the 707 horsepower. It produces 663 pound-feet of torque and comes with a brand new exhaust system that even makes Bentley's Akrapovic exhaust system sound like a commuter car. The carbon fiber roof reduces weight by 40 pounds, while the optional magnesium alloy wheels further reduce weight.
Inside the cockpit, the S is equipped with herringbone sports seats. While this seat cover won't make this SUV run faster, it may make the driver feel more comfortable when climbing hills.
For Aston Martin, his performance in the local area has been exciting these weeks. The new Vantage S made its debut; the company's F1 team both scored points at the British Grand Prix, and of course, the victory of this mountain climb. For a brand that is eager to win, such results are pretty good.
