What is SMG gearbox?

The SMG gearbox adheres to the advantages of all sequential gear changes in gearboxes: the shift can be carried out by the central console or a sphere on the steering wheel. The driver does not need to step on the clutch, and he can change the gear even when you step on the throttle to the end. Unlike the automatic transmission, the SMG gearbox does not need to consume energy or uses a torque.

From the principle, all the shift operations of the SMG gearbox are electric hydraulic. The SMG gearbox uses \\u0026 ldquo; line control shift \\u0026 rdquo; (Shift-By-Wire) technology, which is a technical achievement from the aviation field. Using this technology, the shift can be completed in an instant without mechanical connection. Compared with the original 6 -speed SMG gearbox, the SMG hydraulic unit and execution element of the new M5 are integrated into the transmission box. Once the gear is required, the control unit will activate the corresponding solenoid valve of the entire system hydraulic equipment. Then, a high -pressure hydraulic oil (up to 90 bars) quickly flow through a solenoid valve, enter the clutch total pump, and open the clutch. Then use the solenoid valve in the hydraulic unit to open the four hydraulic cylinders in the execution component, and the latter completes the actual gear change process through four independent gear stall rods. When changing low -end, the engine automatically separates the clutch twice.
