In fact, everyone who loves to play cars likes to find a place to train their car, run to feel the speed and passion, most of these friends love mountain roads, the routes are complex and tortuous, exciting, It is the most fun, of course, we do not encourage mountain racing, we must ensure safety.
Having said that, in fact, I have personally ran many mountain roads. I have driven any type of car. The feeling of driving each time is not only different because of the strength of the power, but also the reaction and logic of the gearbox. A good gearbox can bring you the most hearty experience, except of course the manual gearbox.

A few days ago, I had the opportunity to trot on the mountain road with my friends, but it was not a performance car that I drove, but a big sofa. The model was a 2015 2.0L+CVT, which ran close to 60,000 kilometers. Car, you may think I am crazy, but in fact, there is indeed a problem.

In the brief mountain road journey, I only used half the intensity of normal mountain road running. The throttle was given a little bit more, and the whole acceleration process was not a lot. After all, it is not a performance car. It is a problem to measure the limit, so it is more convergent, but About 5 minutes after the end of the mountain road and entering the main road, waiting for a red light on a small slope road, the car suddenly stopped for a short time, and then there was a situation where the accelerator did not increase the speed. At that time, it had stepped on nearly 4,000 revolutions, but only maintained The speed is less than 30km/h.
At that time, there were only two situations. First, the gearbox was broken, and second, the gearbox was protected. After trying several times to step on the accelerator and change the P gear and still do not get better, I turned off the engine decisively and restarted, and then it returned to normal. This is the first time I have encountered this kind of problem.

Later, it was discovered that this was the so-called thermal protection of CVT gearboxes. This situation has been encountered by owners of many CVT gearbox models, and sometimes it also occurs on highways. This time I drove violently on the mountain road, which caused the gearbox to become overloaded and heated, so this problem also warned everyone that it is absolutely irrational to use the CVT model to run on the mountain road.
Why is CVT gearbox not suitable for running mountain roads?

First of all, let’s talk about the working principle of CVT gearbox. The full name of CVT gearbox is CVT continuously variable gearbox. It does not rely on gears to change the transmission ratio. Instead, it relies on steel belts and bevel wheels, which continuously slide on the bevel wheels through the steel belt. To complete the speed ratio change, it is equivalent to AT stepping on the stairs, CVT sitting on the slide, and constantly changing the speed.

Then this is the point. Because it only relies on the friction of the steel belt to complete the speed ratio, the problem of slip must exist. Although there are anti-slip programs, it is still inevitable, especially when I am running on a mountain road. When you step on the gas pedal with your big foot, you will obviously feel a sudden acceleration and frustration. This is the performance of skidding.

For example, AT and dual-clutch gearboxes can achieve rapid and continuous downshifts to ensure speed reduction. The reason why CVT gearboxes are most unsuitable for running on mountain roads is that they cannot quickly downshift, but change gears a little bit. Gearboxes are all super-strength friction, irreversible damage to steel belts and cone wheels.
Summarize:
For example, CVT gearboxes are now basically used in some models that focus on economic comfort. Because of the good ride comfort, as long as there is no slippage, there is no frustration. It is positioned for daily driving in the city. So if you choose a CVT gearbox model, please don't choose intense driving. If you like to play cars, please don't choose a CVT gearbox model.
