Make 6mm nail holes:

First, we have to make a 6mm nail hole. We used an electric drill with a 6mm drill bit to drill 4 nail holes in the tread.

After drilling a hole in the tread center pattern, we use a vernier caliper to measure the hole diameter. The hole diameter of the hole drilled in the tire with a 6mm drill bit is about 5.80mm (tire rubber has elasticity).

The four holes drilled on the tread are roughly equal in spacing, which is convenient for the real shot comparison below.

Tire repair process and tire repair time of external rubber strips:

The first to appear is the tire repair rubber strip, which is also called "beef tendon" by those in the industry. The feature of this tire repair method is that it is convenient and quick, but it can only repair smaller nail holes.

To repair tires with cold patch tape, we need to use an awl-like tool. The cold patch can pass through a hole at the tip of the tool. As shown in the picture below, we put the "awl" into the hole in the tire. After the "awl" is inserted into the hole, the cold patch tape is also brought into the hole, and the hole is plugged.

The tool can be taken out after the cold patch is inserted into the hole. At this time, part of the cold patch strip is exposed outside the tread. The part of the cold patch strip that is exposed outside the tread does not need to be removed.

After using this cold patch tape to repair the nail hole, the rubber tape will become softer by heating as the tire is used and better prevent the gas inside the tire from leaking from the nail hole. The repair master also told us that this kind of cold patch tape will "bubble" after a certain period of use, and the nail hole may leak again at this time. Therefore, the cold patch strip can only be used as a temporary tire repair material.

Using cold rubber strips to repair the tire, the entire tire repair process only takes 1 minute and 53 seconds, which is very fast.
