The crankshaft position sensor is a signal generator that controls the ignition of the engine and determines the position of the crankshaft. Its function is to determine the position of the crankshaft. It can detect the piston top dead center signal and the crankshaft angle signal, and send the detected signal to the ECU for control Ignition timing and fuel injection timing; in addition, it can also detect engine speed, also known as a speed sensor.
The crankshaft position sensor can be divided into three types: magnetic induction, photoelectric and Hall type according to the principle of signal generation. The electromagnetic induction crankshaft position sensor is usually divided into two-wire system or three-wire system, of which the two wires are power cord and AC. The signal line, the third line of the 3-wire is the AC signal shielding line, which is connected to the ground; while the Hall-type crankshaft position sensor is a 3-wire system, and the photoelectric crankshaft position sensor is a 4-wire system.
The 2 wires of the crankshaft sensor are signal wires, which can be measured with a multimeter. For the resistance of the electromagnetic induction crankshaft position sensor, the corresponding resistance value is different for different models, but it is basically between 400-2500Ω. To measure the voltage of the electromagnetic induction crankshaft position sensor, the two test leads of the multimeter can be connected to two signal wires at will. Because it is alternating current, it does not distinguish between positive and negative. Generally, the idling voltage is about 5V. The higher the speed, the higher the voltage.
