Brake discs and brake pads are the two major players in a car's braking system. The friction generated by the friction between them slows down or brakes the car. When there is friction, there will be wear. Grooves on the brake disc are a form of wear. What should I do if the brake disc has grooves?
It is natural that the brake disc will wear out after long-term use, and grooves will appear due to wear and tear. This may be because there are more impurities in the brake pads, or the brake pads are hard, and friction with the brake disc can easily cause wear and grooves on the brake disc. The maximum wear limit of the brake disc is 2 mm, which means that when the groove depth on both sides of the brake disc exceeds 1 mm, it needs to be replaced.
If the groove of the brake disc is not deep, you can remove the brake pad and smooth it with coarse sandpaper. After installing the polished brake pad on the car, you can eliminate the groove of the brake disc during use. You can choose softer brake pads. Although the brake pads wear faster, they are less likely to cause grooves in the brake disc.
If the brake disc has a deep groove, you can disassemble the brake disc and polish the groove smooth, which is often called a brake disc. You can then reinstall it and continue to use it, but the service life will be shortened. It is recommended to replace the brake disc directly. Generally speaking, the front brake disc needs to be replaced once every 60,000 to 80,000 kilometers, and the rear brake disc needs to be replaced around 100,000 kilometers. Once the groove reaches the wear limit, it will affect the car's braking effect. For safety reasons, the brake disc must be replaced with a new one.
