Just changed the brake pads, Why can’t you run immediately on the highway?

If new brake pads are replaced, it is not recommended to run at high speed for safety reasons. In particular one point,  maybe someone says that if you change both new brake disc and new brake pads at the same time, there will be no problem if you run at high speed. we do not agree with it. Whether only brake pad or brake disc is changed at the same time, it is still in the running-in period, and it can not achieve the best braking effect, and even the braking distance will become longer. Why do you say that?

This involves the problem of fit between the brake pad and the brake disc.
According to data studies, the fit between the brake pads and the brake discs can only reach 75% or more to achieve greater braking performance in order to achieve better braking effects. However, if this standard is not met, the braking effect will be greatly reduced, which will affect our driving safety.

Here we look at two situations.
First, only changing the brake pads does not change the brake discs. After a long period of running-in, the degree of fit between the old brake discs are much higher than that of the new discs. For example, a pair of shoes that are worn for a long period of time is definitely better than a new pair of shoes. Therefore, it is not recommended to use high speed until perfect fit is achieved. The running-in period is 500 kilometers and more.

Second, the brake discs are all new. Some people may say that they are all new brake discs, and their degree of conformity has definitely reached the standard. not necessarily! Due to the mechanical manufacturing error, the new disc new film also needs to run through for a period of time to get a perfect fit. In addition, an oxide film is attached to the surface of the new disc and the new disc that has just been changed, which will greatly reduce the braking performance. Therefore, in this case, high speed is not recommended either.

In short, after replacing the brake discs or pads, we have to go through a run-in period of at least 500 km and above in order to achieve the best braking performance. Before this, the car devil once again reminded everyone to avoid high speed as much as possible.
