Car owner's car knowledge】A component that we often mention and is also very important, this component has been worshipped by the majority of turbo fans, this is the "pressure relief valve".

The reason why the pressure relief valve is a separate chapter is because this part has been mentioned a lot and said a lot. At present, due to the commonly used low-pressure method, the pressure relief valve is a crucial part of the output power of the engine. Through the control of the pressure relief valve, the same engine often has different output characteristics.

Controlling the working pressure of the engine is the most important role

There are many theories about the role of the relief valve, protecting the throttle or the turbo. However, some engines now do not have a throttle valve, of course, the protection of the throttle valve cannot be fully explained; as for the protection of the turbine, in fact, when the boost pressure is too large, the intake components and cylinder combustion must be affected first, so The protection of the turbo can only be regarded as an additional role.

In fact, for all these working elements under pressure, pressure protection is the most basic element. The function of the pressure relief valve is to control the pressure in the intake pipe below the limit value, which not only takes into account the needs of the engine, but also the pressure range that the intake components can withstand.

For example, our pressure cooker has several safety valves on it, the purpose of which is to control the pressure in the cooker so that it will not explode. The first pressure cooker only had one safety valve, but it often happened that the pressure was too high and it exploded. Later pressure cookers added various other safety valves, and the current pressure cookers basically have more than 3 insurances.

Supercharged engines, whether turbocharged or supercharged, require a pressure relief valve. However, it is more familiar to the public because the boost provided by the turbocharger is difficult to control directly and the modified cars mostly use turbocharging. In a turbocharged engine without a pressure relief valve, excessive boost pressure will generate more power and stronger exhaust gas, which will push the turbo to a higher speed, thereby generating more intake air, and so on. The faster the turbo spins, the damaging consequences for both the turbo and the engine itself. Therefore, in a sense, the role played by the pressure relief valve is also the role played by the throttle valve (what we usually call the throttle), which controls the amount of intake air.

Also, while we slammed the throttle, the throttle closed, but the supercharger didn't stop working, especially the turbo. Due to inertia, the turbine still rotates at a high speed of more than tens of thousands of revolutions per minute, and the air is still continuously compressed into the intake pipe. Rapidly rising, it may cause damage to the throttle valve or burst the intake pipe, and some models will lie down because it is difficult to accurately measure the air flow after the intake pipe bursts.

On the other hand, starting from Volkswagen, modular engine and vehicle design ideas are widely used, one of which is the modularity of the engine. The essence of this modularity is actually a combination of unchanging hardware and variable software. On the engine, in addition to some changes in parts, different engine versions are produced by adjusting the boost pressure of the pressure relief valve. This situation is also reflected in the engine of our own brand Great Wall 1.5T.
