The car market is filled with smoke | Looking back at 2023

If we were still worried about not being able to choose a suitable new energy car before, then starting from 2023, this may no longer be a problem.

Traditional car companies, multinational manufacturers, and new forces will all come to an end in 2023, and the car market will be filled with smoke.

If in the past, car companies entered the SUV market with strong consumer demand in order to take the lead in seizing the new energy market, then now as the new energy market matures, everyone has begun to try to conquer the sedan market.

For example, the first model of BYD's DM-i super hybrid system is the compact SUV Song PLUS DM-i launched in 2021, followed by many other SUV models such as Tang DM-i, and it was not until the past year or two that the Qin PLUS was launched. (Inquiry|Pictures|Parameters) DM-i, Han DM-i/EV and other car products.

Another example is the second-generation car brand Avita. It also launched the Avita 11, positioned as a medium and large SUV, in 2022, and then launched the Avita 12, a medium and large sedan, in November 2023.

It is worth noting that Huawei’s smart car selection business has also launched its first sedan, the Zhijie S7, after launching two SUV models. The price starts at 249,800 yuan, and it is also positioned as a medium to large sedan.

It is not difficult to find that medium and large cars are the breakthrough point for independent brands to enter the sedan market.

The same is true for new forces. NIO's first car was the medium and large SUV - ES8, and its first sedan, ET7, was released three years later. The brand has now formed a product matrix of different types of sedans such as ET5 and ET7.

Lideal's first car is also a medium to large SUV. Although Lideal ONE has been discontinued, three L series models will follow. Although Ideal has not yet launched a sedan, Li Xiang's attitude is very ambiguous. He once publicly posted on Weibo and said: "What if we can't produce a sedan product?" I personally think this is equivalent to making it clear.

The same is true for joint venture car companies. Dongfeng Nissan's first pure electric car is the compact SUV Ariea; FAW Toyota's first pure electric car in the bZ series is bZ4X, and the first pure electric sedan bZ3 will only be released in April 2023.

Although more and more car companies are joining the sedan market, most of them still conservatively choose to enter the market at affordable prices. In addition to the above models, there are also models such as Buick Volkswagen ID.3 (overseas), Changan Eado EV, etc.

However, since 2023, there has been a clear trend for independent brands to enter the high-end sedan market.

In the past, the prices of new energy cars launched by everyone were concentrated in the early 100,000 yuan, but starting from 2023, models priced at more than 150,000 yuan will emerge in an endless stream.

Among them are parent brands of traditional major manufacturers, such as Changan Qiyuan A07. Perhaps in order to be more high-end, they generally position themselves on medium and large sedans.

If nothing else goes wrong, in addition to directly competing with BYD Han, this type of model will also seize the market of traditional fuel-powered medium-sized cars such as GAC Toyota Camry and SAIC Volkswagen Passat in a "high-end and low-end" approach.

Second-generation car brands are also continuing to develop in this price range. For example, Jikrypton launched the Jikrypton 007 at the end of the year, priced from 209,900 yuan. It is worth noting that all models of this model are equipped with an 800V high-voltage system as standard, and with a starting price of just over 200,000 yuan, this was unimaginable in the past. Will overcharging become a standard feature of mid-to-high-end cars in the future? Worth the wait.

Among the hot-selling new forces, Nezha took the lead in building a 2-door, 4-seater sports car - Nezha GT (Inquiry | Pictures | Parameters). The car will be launched in April 2023 with a guide price of 178,800-235,800 yuan. It is currently the brand's most expensive model on sale.

Leapao also launched the Leapao C01 in 2023, priced at 145,800-208,800 yuan. It was one of the few new energy medium and large sedans that had both extended range and pure electric power. It may be intended to lower the purchase threshold.

Car companies with a relatively complete matrix of new energy models will launch flagship models in 2023.

In late December, Geely Galaxy E8 started pre-sale at a price starting from 188,000 yuan, positioning it as the series' pure electric flagship model. Since the launch of the first model L7, the Geely Galaxy series has achieved monthly sales of over 10,000 units for five consecutive months, reaching 13,800 units in November. The good sales performance has also laid the market foundation for the launch of the flagship model.

NIO, one of the new forces, also released its executive flagship sedan, ET9, in late December. This is NIO’s model with the highest rate of self-development, and the pre-sale price is as high as 800,000 yuan.

FAW-Volkswagen launched the ID.7 VIZZION, the world's first pure electric flagship sedan of the Volkswagen brand, in early December, priced from 227,777 yuan.

FAW-Volkswagen ID.7 VIZZION has better made up for the previous shortcomings in smart cockpits and smart driving, which means that even if major multinational manufacturers lag behind in the early stage, their response and progress are very rapid. If this rate continues, they are bound to become strong rivals of independent brands.

Major overseas manufacturers are also moving in a hurry in 2023. BMW has released the new i7 xDrive 60 flagship electric sedan, which is currently available in Hong Kong with a starting price of HK$2.8999 million.

There is also Volvo. Officials recently announced that an engineering prototype car internally codenamed V551 has officially rolled off the production line. It is Volvo's first pure electric sedan, or a pure electric version of the S90.

At present, many major manufacturers have not launched new energy flagship cars, such as BYD, Changan, Cadillac, Hyundai, etc. 2024 may be the next explosive period.

Volume price, volume category, volume positioning, the new energy car market will fully bloom in 2023.

The top players continue to bravely venture into the "no man's land", and major multinational companies keep up with the pace. The winner will not be determined until the later stages. Players who have not yet entered the game all agree that the sedan market cannot be given up. In 2024, competition in this market will only become more intense.

By the way, Xiaomi Motors recently held a technology conference. How will SU7 disrupt the new energy car market? Worth looking forward to~
