The timing belt is a rubber product, which is prone to aging and breaking after a long time of use, which will affect the operation of the automobile engine. Therefore, regular inspection and maintenance are required. How do you check the timing belt yourself? Let's take a look at it together.

Timing belt inspection

1. Disconnect the negative cable of the battery first, and then disconnect the positive cable of the battery.

2. Disconnect the wire plug of the alternator, then remove the engine wiring harness from the cylinder head, and remove the cylinder head cover.

3. Remove the upper cover of the timing belt.

4. Rotate the crankshaft pulley counterclockwise to check whether the belt is cracked or stained by organic oil or coolant. If there is, it should be completely removed; check whether the belt tooth is worn or not, and replace it if necessary.

The tightness of the timing belt is very important. If it is too tight, it will cause excessive tension and break easily, which will affect the life of the belt; if the belt is too loose, it will produce abnormal noise and easily slip, causing the configuration timing to lag and causing the car to appear. Jitter, weak refueling, insufficient power, increased fuel consumption, etc., it is easy to jump teeth when the engine is under heavy load or power shock, which may cause the valve to be lifted, thereby damaging the engine.

The timing belt needs to be adjusted to the best tightness, which can be adjusted with a hexagonal key. When the belt is pressed down with 10mm looseness, can be turned 90 degrees, and the engine runs normally without abnormal noise, it is the best tightness.
