As we all know, braking performance is a crucial measurement index, and as people's living standards are increasing, many small partners have begun to contact the field of modification, so the brake piston mentioned today is undoubtedly a very popular item. But some friends raised such a question, how does the appearance look at the number of brake pistons, what does the two-, four-, six-, and eight-piston calipers mean? Is it the more the better.

How to distinguish the number of pistons:

It can be distinguished from the appearance, there will be several round bumps on the caliper, and the bumps are what we call pistons. Then the pistons of the caliper are symmetrical on both sides, which can increase the braking force while also distributing the braking force evenly. So when we count the pistons, we only need to count one side (symmetrical), and the number of protrusions multiplied by two is the total number of pistons.

As for the meaning of two-, four-, six-, and eight-piston calipers, it actually means that the brake cylinder has two, four, six or eight hydraulic pistons in use. In theory, the more pistons in the brake caliper, the greater the braking force generated. However, it is necessary to consider whether the discharge volume of the master cylinder matches, otherwise adding more pistons is just superfluous. Even with sufficient discharge volume, excessive braking force is likely to cause the tire to lock up. Therefore, you must do your homework before refitting to see if your car is really suitable for adding so much, in short, just keep it in moderation.
