Automobile disc brakes, also called disc brakes, are divided into two types, ordinary brakes and ventilated brakes. Automobile drum brakes are also called drum brakes. The two braking methods are different in structure, working principle, and manufacturing cost. From the perspective of use, disc brakes will be better, because drum brakes will gradually weaken their braking sensitivity and braking distance with the braking frequency. It will be longer and longer and prone to accidents.

The following is the difference between car disc brakes and drum brakes

1. Different structure

The brakes of automobile disc brakes are composed of brake discs, brake calipers, friction linings, sub-cylinders, oil pipes and other parts.

Drum brakes of automobile drum brakes mainly include brake wheel cylinders, brake shoes, brake drums, friction linings, return springs and other parts.

2. Different working principles

Automobile disc brake is the friction between the brake caliper and the brake disc that rotates with the wheel to achieve the purpose of braking.

Automobile drum brakes mainly use hydraulic devices to cause friction between the friction lining and the inner surface of the brake drum that rotates with the wheels to brake.

3. The cost is different

Drum brakes are relatively cheap and are generally used in models with lower manufacturing costs.

The disadvantages of drum brakes include poor heat dissipation, severe heat exhaustion, rapid braking force decay during repeated braking, and slower response speed of the overall structure. The structure of disc brakes is more complicated. The disadvantage is that the braking force is not as great as drum brakes, but its heat dissipation effect is better.Good, and the cooling and heating effect of ventilated disc brakes is better than ordinary disc brakes by using air flow.

At present, car disc brakes have not been widely used, only in some cars. Due to its reliability and powerful braking force, automobile drum brakes are still configured on many models (mostly used on the rear wheels), especially on large trucks.
