The air-fuel ratio A/F (A: air-air, F: fuel-fuel) represents the mixing ratio of air and fuel. The air-fuel ratio is an important parameter when the engine is running, and it has a great impact on exhaust emissions, engine power and economy.
Theoretical air-fuel ratio: the ratio of the minimum amount of air and fuel required for complete combustion of fuel. The composition of the fuel has little effect on the theoretical air-fuel ratio. The theoretical air-fuel ratio of gasoline is roughly 14.8, that is, 14.8g of air is required to burn 1g of gasoline. Generally speaking, the gasoline engine mixture is too rich or too lean, and its standard is the theoretical air-fuel ratio. When the air-fuel ratio is less than the theoretical air-fuel ratio, the gasoline content in the mixture is high, which is called too rich; when the air-fuel ratio is greater than the theoretical air-fuel ratio, the air content in the mixture is high, which is called too lean.
When the mixture is slightly too rich, that is, when the air-fuel ratio is 13.5-14, gasoline burns best, and the flame temperature is also the highest. Because more fuel can burn all the oxygen in the air.
From an economic point of view, when the mixture is leaner, that is, the fuel consumption is the smallest when the air-fuel ratio is 16. Because there is more air at this time, the fuel can be fully burned.
In terms of engine power, when the mixture is rich, the flame temperature is high and the combustion speed is fast. When the air-fuel ratio is between 12-13, the engine power is the highest.
